This website was designed by me to support the math program at South Puget Sound Community College. It is an addon to the in-person tutoring that is available in the Math Laboratory. The material presented here is designed to provide insight into critical concepts, present examples and give you (the student) some problems to use to check on your knowledge.
All the material presented here reflects my view. This may not always agree with the view held by the staff member who is teaching your course. You should always be guided by your instructors views. They will be the ones giving you a grade for your course. Hopefully this won't be a problem and the material presented here will help you learn some math. The material relates to the subjects listed below. No attempt has been made to cover every aspect of every course. I have tried to cover the most important concepts. If something is missing that you would like to see covered send me an email at the address given at the bottom of this page or drop by the Math Tutoring Center and talk to us about it. In addition if something in this material does not agree with the approach used by your instructor please let me know. Tell me the instructors name and the class number. I will contact the instructor and do my best to bring the material into line with the instructors views.
The website was designed using a mixture of HTML, JavaScript and Java 2 code. For almost all of you the only viewing problems will come with the Java 2 code. Unfortunately that code provides support for all of the interactive graphics and some of the computations. I am assuming that you are using the Windows operating system and the Internet Explorer (IE) web browser from Microsoft. The newer your version of IE the less likely it is to be fully compatible with this site. However, all is not lost. You can go to http:///www.sun.com/productsplugin/autodl/jinstall-1_4_0-win.cab (this address may change but http://www.sun.com should still work as a starting point). From that website you can download a FREE pulg-in that will make your browser compatible with this web site. Download times will varry. If you have a slow dialup line it will take 35 to 40 minutes. If you have DSL or something faster it will take 5 to 10 minutes. In addition to the plug-in you will need to go to your IE properties window and enable Java (and JavaScript). If you do all of this and Java still doesn't work email me and I will try to help you. In your email tell me the version of Windows that you are using, the version of IE that you are using and the nature of the problems you are experiencing.
Now pick your subject and start off
